Sussex Search and Rescue.
Searching for vulnerable missing people across Sussex.
Sussex Search and Rescue (SusSAR) is the primary search resource for Sussex Police.
We are a dedicated team of professionally trained and equipped local volunteers who can employ specialist skills in the search for vulnerable missing persons.
Within an hour of being called out we can deploy a highly motivated and dedicated team of searchers on the ground anywhere in Sussex.
SusSAR has members with advanced first aid capabilities to the level of Lowland Rescue First Responder and a Water Team trained in swift water rescue and flood first response skills.
As you can imagine being an operational member of the team requires a high level of commitment.
The unit exists purely on the goodwill of volunteers, and membership is particularly rewarding to those who feel they would like to give something back to their community. However we have recently had a large number of applicants and are no longer accepting further applications until after March 2021.
We are always interested in hearing from people who feel they have what it takes to become a search technician, if you are still interested we would love to hear from you after March 2021.
Where we operate
We cover the whole of Sussex including the administrative areas of East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove.
We are also on call to provide assistance to our neighbouring teams in Kent, Surrey and Hampshire when requested.
Unfortunately, we cannot respond to calls from the public. The police will call us when there is a need for our services. If we are called to assist by a neighbouring team they will also have been requested by their local police.
